A bodaboda rider died on Saturday while a passenger he was carrying, a student at Green Valley Secondary school sustained injuries, when a lorry which was ferrying charcoal fell on them in Limuru.
The lorry driver also sustained minor injuries and was treated at Tigoni Hospital, before being discharged, while the Form One student was rushed to Kiambu District Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the lorry was trying to evade a huge pothole, before losing control and coming down on the two.
“The lorry was coming from Kwambira and the motorbike was coming from Limuru. The lorry was unable to evade the pothole and it stumbled on it coming down on the motorbike. Unfortunately the rider has died on the spot,” said James Mwangi, a witness.
The residents are now blaming the poor state of the road for the incident.
“If this road was good, that man could not have died and no one could have been injured. The government is aware that this road is impassable but it does nothing,” said Rose Njeri, a resident.
They added that the road has become a subject of a blame game between the county and national government, with each claiming that the road belongs to the other.
