With almost 80 percent of accidents being attributed to human error in the country, the new curriculum will enable drivers to use and follow rules and regulations governing roads safely to minimise road accidents.

Speaking during the launch, the CS for transport, James Macharia said that the government is ready to change views held by the public that driving courses are for those who fail to make in the education sector.

According to United Nations, 2010 was declared a decade for road safety. Macharia said that Kenya will comply and do its part to reduce accidents by 50%.

In Kenya, 3000 people die from road accidents annually with over 20,000 being left temporarily or permanently paralysed a situation that Macharia said will change for the better.

The curriculum which has been divided into various modules will provide guidance for training and testing of drivers of motorcycles, light vehicles, public service vehicles and commercial vehicles.
