When news of songbird Achieng' Abura's death broke, Kenyans, as usual, sprung up on social media bashing death for robbing the music industry of great talent.

"Fare thee well my dear comrade, you have fought the fight, you have finished the race. Till we meet again!" re-known artist Suzzana Owiyo posted on her official Facebook page.

"RIP Achieng Abura #sad, #RIP Achieng Abura" artists Jua Cali and Nonini posted respectively.

And politicians were not left during this eulogy time.

"The country is in a sombre mood as we mourn the loss of an amazing lady, a great Afro-Jazz/ Afro-Fusion artiste, and a daughter of the land. I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Achieng' Abura. May her soul rest in a peaceful eternity," Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka posted.

"Prayers and fond memories are what we have of you. A good soul ascended to heaven. #RIPAchiengAbura," Governor Evans Kidero said.

But how much of this departed superstar do we actually know?

The fact is Achieng' was more than a musician.

Besides excelling in music, the late was an academic.

At the time of her death on October 20, Achieng' held a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering as well as a Masters Degree in Philosophy and Environmental studies.

What will remain a puzzle for many to crack is explaining why such an academic abandoned pursuing for a job probably in one of the fields she studied and ventured into music. Rest In Peace Achieng' Abura.
