Kenyan rugby legend Humphrey Kayange has retired from international rugby. The Mwamba RFC player has previously played for Samurai International, Ulinzi RFC and Bristol University where he studied.
He has played for Kenya for twelve years, since 2005 when he first made his debut at the age of 23. He is considered one of the most successful rugby players in Kenya and has the following achievements:
1. Third leading top try scorer in the world rugby 7s series in 2009-2010 season where Kenya finished sixth.
2. New Zealand 7s Head coach, Gordon Tietjens included him in his ideal sevens team.
3. He is the most successful Kenya 7s captain.
4. In 2010 he was awarded the very prestigious Order of Golden Warriors (OGW).
5. He was Wales sevens 2010 man of the tournament.
6. IRB ambassador as part of the bid team that gave presentations to the IOC for the inclusion of rugby in the 2016 Rio Olympics).
7. IRB keep rugby clean ambassador (2010).
Away from his achievements in rugby, Kayange is a biochemist and co-founder of GoodKenyan which is a social enterprise that aims to empower, transform and engage form four leavers in a four-month program.
He is also the chairman of NOCK.
