The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has called on national leaders to ensure that there is fairness in every election so as to prevent standoffs after polls.
Speaking in Mombasa on Sunday during the consecration of Mombasa Diocese Bishop Alphonce Baya, Sapit said that political and tribal divisions being experienced in the country every electoral year can be prevented if there is justice in elections.
“To all our political leaders across the divide, we need to look at the reforms especially in the electoral system so that every work can be done transparently safeguarding justice for each and every one because where there is justice peace prevails,” said Sapit.
He also said that it was the responsibility of Kenyans to work together every year even during elections to avert continued differences that are straining justice for others.
“Now that we are past elections, we call upon Kenyans to come together to seek dialogue on all issues affecting us so that in future we can be able to conduct peaceful elections,” he added.
There has been increased pressure on President Uhuru Kenyatta and the NASA leader Raila Odinga to engage in dialogue to solve the electoral standoff that has been experienced in the country during the disputed August 8th general election.
