Outgoing Mombasa ACK Bishop Julius Kalu[photo/ommydallah.co.ke]Outgoing Mombasa ACK Bishop Julius Kalu delivered his last official service by calling for talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa leader Raila Odinga. Bishop Kalu who has now retired after serving for 24 years in the Mombasa Diocese, said it is important that the country begins the year on a foundation of peace.
“We are asking all our leaders, especially those from Jubilee and Nasa, to come together for the sake of peace. The two party leaders command a huge following and therefore have a responsibility to unite Kenyans. It is important that the country remains united,” said Kalu at ACK Cathedral, Mombasa.
Addressing the press, the Bishop urged Kenyans to erase the ugly political incidences of last year and go into 2018 with a forgiving heart for the sake of development in the country. “In the same way we are ushering in a new year, let us forget the past and forgive one another.
The leaders should come together so that we can build peace and prosperity in our country,” he said. On weekend marked Bishop Kalu’s last service after 37 years of service to the church. He, however, said he will continue playing a role in preaching peace and uniting Kenyans.
“Mine is to thank the faithful in Mombasa for the support they gave me during my long service as their leader. We shall be doing the handing over to the next Bishop next Sunday,” said Bishop Kalu. At the same time, he hailed the move by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to ban night travel saying the move is likely to instill sanity on Kenyan roads and reduce the loss of life.
Bishop Kalu added that night travel ban has succeeded in minimising road accidents in neighboring Tanzania and should be applied with firmness in the country.
