Nakuru is set to launch the Nakuru County Youth Act and Youth Policy meant to provide a framework for engagement between the youth and the county government.

Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said some of the proposals in the Act and Policy will include the establishment of a County Youth Fund and an endowment fund to support youth enterprise development.

He said the initiative will also see the establishment of a centralised Youth Data-Bank for youth groups and a youth hub, which will be a resource center for information.

"This initiative follows a series of consultative meetings between the county government of Nakuru and the youth," he said.

"Our young people do not have to migrate to other counties in search of socio-economic and even political opportunities in a bid to improve their economic well-being and social status, they must be able to find them right here."

He noted that the process has given due recognition to the youth by involving them in the designing, planning and implementing programs and policies that affect them.

"This is the start and in this spirit we are looking for better and bigger things," Mbugua added.

"Our youth must be involved, they should not be left on the sidelines in making of decisions that directly affect their welfare."

Youth Advisor to the Governer Njuguna Kimani said the policy will seek to identify and promote talent in the county.

“We intend to tap talent from the youth who live around the county and convert it into an income generating activity,” said Kimani.

They were speaking on Friday during celebrations to mark the Nakuru Youth Week which was meant to reach out to the youth in regards to devolution.

The event gave youth in Nakuru an opportunity to showcase their initiatives and dynamism for engaging with their county government.

Kimani pointed out that the youth empowerment was vital in decision making and public participation
