The government has been called upon to ensure that they get into an agreement as soon as possible so that the nurses and doctors drop their strike.
According to some of the residents interviewed by this writer in Kisii on Monday, the strike would highly affect the poor who cannot afford to go to private hospitals and therefore there is a need for the government to get in good terms with the nurses.
Kennedy Mayuya a residents of Daraja said that in the past there have been deaths in various hospitals due to the nurses and doctors strike therefore there was a need for the government to ensure that doesn’t happen again.
“We would not like to hear a number of deaths rise due to lack of nurses and doctors as we pay taxes that needs to be utilised towards such actions,” he added.
This comes barely hours after the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Pharmacists Union (KMPDU) said that the nurses belonging to the unions will not report to work as from Monday 5th, however, that is against the willing of the government.
