Action Aid-Kenya will work towards empowering people living with disabilities secure jobs in government, private sector and self-employment through a Comprehensive Empowerment Programme for People Living with Disabilities in Kenya (CEPPLD).
Philip Mwanzilo, Action Aid Programmes Coordinator while addressing a Stakeholders Forum on The Rights and Empowerment of Disabled People in Society at Tas Hotel in Nakuru town on Tuesday, said his organization would sponsor stakeholders’ activities and programmes designed towards improving the living standards and rights of the disabled in the country.
“It is a pledge of life and hope to work with, and sponsor group and individual efforts aimed at improving the lives of the disabled. As a human rights and welfare linked organization, we are dedicated towards fulfilling our social welfare and responsibility mandate,” he remarked.
He announced that Action Aid had set aside over Sh100 million annually towards the project that will include education bursaries, healthcare, small business, legal and political rights and activism for people living with disabilities in all counties in the country.
He noted that there was a need for the government to establish a compressive register and database of information for people living with disabilities in the country in order for stakeholders’ programmes for such people to be more effective.
