A political activist in Nakuru has urged the government to disband the Youth Uwezo Fund, following an outcry from youths in the country over mismanagement of the fund.
James Kaka, who is preparing to run for the Nakuru-East Parliamentary seat after failing to capture the Menengai Ward count assembly representation seat told this writer in Nakuru that the Uwezo Fund was being politicized by elected leaders in the country, thus not meeting its intended mandate.
According to the political activist, the Ministry of Devolution has since failed to manage the disbursement of the fund’s money, leaving the mandate to political leaders to the changing of youth in the country.
“Many registered youth groups I have talked to and those that I know have never benefited from the fund, yet politicians are going around claiming that the fund is solving youth unemployment problems,” said Kaka.
“They are deliberately controlling the fund for political gain just like they are doing with CDF. I do not understand how politicians distribute cheques for the funds for a few groups yet they have no mandate over it,” added Kaka.
He challenged Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to come clean on the management of the fund, while urging youth in the country to demonstrate against favourism and political interferences in the management of the fund, which he termed as a ‘political public relations gimmick’ whose time had expired.
