A health activist in Nakuru has decried the poor state of health services in local public health centres.
African Network Against Child Neglect and Health (ANACNH) Kenya representative, Dr Eunice Mung’asia, said that most poor people in Nakuru County do not access quality health services. Mung'asia noted that most public health centres are in poor conditions.
“Almost all public health centres in urban residential and rural areas are poorly managed and lack medical equipments, drugs and staff to administer to people,” notes Mung'asia.
Speaking on a promptu visit to Menengai health centre Mung'asia criticised both the county and the national government for doing little to improve the situation.
“We are very much worried and concerned about the rampant poor public health services in our local public health centres,” said Mung'asia.
According to the activist children and women are suffering of the poor services since they are highly vulnerable to many health conditions.
She called upon the ministry of health to work closely with Non Governmental Organizations health stakeholders to help equip and manage community based health centres.
“This will help to improve health standards of poor people in informal urban and rural settlements,” said Mang'asia.
