A Kisumu based activist, Amos Mwau has blamed the government over increased exam irregularities.
Speaking on Tuesday in Kisumu, he said the KNEC Board has placed rules that are not effective in punishing those involved in exam irregularities.
“There are clear set rules that govern the National Examinations yet there is no enforcement. In the past exam a lot of people and students were involved in exam irregularities yet the national government puts no effort in conducting investigations to ensure all those involved are put to book. How are we to end exam irregularities when the government cannot prosecute the perpetrators?” he asked.
He said some individuals are using the national exams to make money.
“Some individuals are making huge sums of money by selling exam papers which is very unfortunate as a large number of them get away with it. Most people engage in these acts since the government cannot prosecute them and they can easily get away with it,"he added.
He said the government should set up an independent body that deals with exam irregularities.
“Exam is a very sensitive part of us which ought to be handled with all the discipline it deserves. The government should establish an independent body that will deal with these exam irregularities without involving much politics for most cases the situation is always politicised.”
