A Bill to change the current Constitution has been submitted by activist Okiya Omtatah.

In Omtatah's petition he has called for Kenya to change its current voting system to the electoral voting system used in the US.

"Each one of the 47 counties shall constitute one presidential electoral point and each one of the 290 constituencies shall also constitute one presidential electoral point," the draft partly reads as reported by The Standard.

For the amendment to force a referendum it would require one million signatures.

After garnering the one million signatures it would then be sent to the 47 count assemblies.

Also note that it must gain approval from at least 24 of the counties in order for it to reach the National Assembly.

"Should Parliament pass it then it is signed into law by the President," Omtatah said as reported by The Standard.

If the petition were to pass it would incorporate the votes of minority groups since the electoral vote would require their overall input as well.
