Human Rights Activist Kilen Omondi has challenged Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to provide civic education to locals awaiting next elections.
Activist Omondi challenged the IEBC to plan and provide civic education to locals to enlighten them saying it was their civic right to be educated on the same.
He noted that a prior awareness creation would have enhanced knowhow to the locals whom, he claimed many of them do not know how to use the BVR.
Speaking to the press today (Friday) at Kisumu Social Hall, he cited that proper planning for civic education should be in place adding that an empowered local would be more engaging hence smooth process during elections will be assured.
He also noted that leaders should adjudicate for proper civic education to the locals as it was a requirement.
“Most of the locals are not familiar with the process the new system applies and even about the civic education rights. It is therefore, my challenge to the IEBC to initiate prior education on that effect “said Omondi.
Migosi Ward MCA Paul Achayo echoed the same saying that the locals needed proper civic education adding that it was a key obligation to IEBC to initiate civic educational forums.
Achayo emphasised on prior planning saying that as a commission they were bound to fail if they never properly planned, quoting that anybody who does not plan its actions is bound to fail.
“Let us educate locals civically and I am challenging IEBC to take up to their roles and discharge duties they are obligated,” said Achayo.
