The race to replace outspoken Mombasa Women Representative Mishi Mboko in the August poll is gaining momentum with staunch Human Rights activist Maimuna Mwidau being the latest entrant into the crowded race.
Born in a political family, Mwidau is yet to declare her party, but has promised to do so by the end of the month.
"At the moment, I have relocated back to the Coast and I urge the people of Mombasa to remain alert because I will soon announce my political vehicle," she said.
Mwidau, who had tried her luck in politics in 2004 lost to Ananiah Mwaboza in the Kisauni by-election following the death of Karisa Maitha.
It is unclear whether Mboko will defend her seat, following reports that she has declared interest in unseating Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima who recently decamped to Jubilee.
Should Mboko, who has grown her political stature in the coastal county vie for the women rep seat, she will face a familiar foe, Asha Hussein, who she humbled during the 2013 poll.
Others who have declared interest in the seat include Sadaf Deen, Afiya Rama and Sarah Makau.
