Youths have been challenged to abstain from premarital sex in a bid to combat high rate of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in Nyamira.
Catherine Nyamato, an activist who is also on record for being the first Kisii woman to contest for a political seat, on Monday said cases of premarital sex in the lager Gusii region were rampant based on high cases of STDs, early pregnancy and HIV/AIDS related cases as released by Ministry of Health.
She asked the youth to concentrate in their studies, besides choosing proper companies in a bid to boost the ethical and high moral standards in the society.
“Being a woman from this region I am obliged to remind you that many young people are engaging themselves in premarital sex. As on record in the Ministry of Health, cases of HIV-related diseases are rampant in Gusii region,” she said.
“It will be proper if you young people choose your friends wisely. You must uphold good morals and ethics in our contemporary society,” Nyamato added.
During the event at Sen. John Kebaso secondary, she donated sanitary towels worth Sh500,000 and gave Sh200,000 as a motivation to teachers in the school.
