James Kaka, a political activist and businessperson based in Nakuru town while talking to this writer on Friday observed that local youth groups and other youth should take up an initiative of repairing faulty sewerage lines, drainage and roads in order for the government to realize that it is sleeping on the job.

He encouraged youth to take up the charity works and solicit for payments from motorists and residents instead of staying idle.

“What we are witnessing in our town being caused by floods and stagnant sewerage is an indication enough that our government and elected leaders are sleeping on the job. They have forgotten their public service mandate is busy planning for the next elections,” he said.

“We have funds set aside to repair roads and drainage and sewerage systems, but instead our people are dying from Cholera while roads are impassable. The next thing we will witness is the destruction of schools and even loss of lives while the government remains unmoved,” he added.

“My advice and encouragement to our local youth is that they should take up that responsibility so that the government will get ashamed,” added Kaka.

He promised to mobilize youths in his residential area of Teachers estate that is ravaged by floods to take up roads, sewerage and drainage repair, and construction works on a community-based basis and later on petition the government to compensate the youth.
