A human rights activist wants the police to make public the results of investigations of the killing of three men in Garissa town last week.
Northern Forum for Democracy (NFD) coordinator Khalif Abdi said the police should provide details on how a watchman and two hotel employees were killed by unknown assailants.
Abdi also called for speedy investigations and the arrest of those involved in the Thursday murder at the hotel.
The three, a watchman and two local hotel staff were hit with blunt objects on their heads by unknown gang during the incident.
According to the police, the gang members scaled the perimeter wall to the hotel compound undetected and descended on the victims who were sleeping at the hotel.
Abdi said it’s the responsibility of the police to provide security and protect lives adding that such killings may create anxiety among Garissa residents with elections just around the corner.
“We don’t want to speculate on the murder, but the investigative agencies must do their work properly and bring to book all those behind the killings,” he said.
“This kind of killings at this time we are going for general elections might create unnecessary anxiety, and the earlier it’s resolved the better for all of us,” he added.
Last week, Garissa County Commissioner (CC) James Kianda urged the area residents to remain calm and work with the police adding that enough security will be provided.
“At this point in time, we are treating the incident as normal crime, but we will get down to the bottom of this. I want to assure everyone that we will catch up with those behind this inhuman act,” said Kianda.
