Kisumu Water and Sewerages Company has been called upon to treat its water appropriately to reduce the high cases of typhoid spread noted in the region.
Kisumu county health activist Spencer Omollo, while speaking at Kisumu Hotel said that locals are given poor services by the KIWASCO.
According to Omollo, poor water services delivered could easily necessitate the spread of diseases like typhoid.
Omollo noted that residents complained of water in their taps not running, others complained on untreated water stating that such untreated water wasn’t good for human consumption.
She called on county government in collaboration with the KIWASCO to allocate funds in seeing water services are enhanced.
“Water is used by various households at least every day, this means the KIWASCO team needs to enhance their service deliveries,” said Omollo.
Other health analyst in attendance, Mercy Ndambuki, also reiterated on proper service delivery to the locals by ensuring that locals got treated water.
She alleged officers tasked with treating water in the region ended up selling water chemicals allocated to them for use.
“Such acts are not ethical. We are asking KIWASCO management to reorganise its team for efficiency,” said Ndambuki.
