Garissa activist, Mary Amina has condemned the move by the national government to close the Dadaab camp in Garissa.
Amina said the move will frustrate the refugees and lead to infringement on their rights. The activist also said the government should reconsider closing on the camp which has over 500000 refugees.
“This is very sad of our government throwing out helpless refugees who seek peace in our country. These people are helpless and most of them flee war from their mother countries,” said Amina.
The activist said telling them to go back is like telling them to go get killed.
“The government should retract in its decision to close the camp. These refugees will die of war and famine. Some of them have been here for years and do not even know where their homes are,” she added.
The move to close the biggest refugee camp has received sharp criticism worldwide. The activist said the move is politically motivated and not interested in protecting the citizens.
“Some individuals are going to gain political mileage from the move,’’ said Amina.
