Led by Haki Africa, the civil society groups have affirmed not to relent in their fight against the vice.

Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid said activists will not sit back and watch the county and national government officials looting what rightfully belongs to the common mwananchi.

Clad in red T-shirts, a group of activists from different parts of the country launched the Red Thursday Movement to protest against the increased misuse of public funds while demanding action from the relevant authorities as soon as possible.

The civil society groups were cheered by the people on the streets of Mombasa as they walked in protest.

Khalid said the groups, in collaboration with the public, will be holding demonstrations every Thursday until the government swings into action.

"It is not a must for all to come out to protest together. You can choose to wear red T-shirts and stay at home just to symbolise protest against corruption," Khalid said, as quoted by The Standard.

The protestors asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Governor Hassan Joho to fight corruption or resign.
