They have already started collecting 10, 000 signatures that will be presented for discussion in the assembly citing that the cameras would be able to capture drivers who have been over speeding leading to serious maiming and eventual death of road users.

James Wakibia, who spearheaded the petition said that many of the drivers deliberately ignore letting pedestrians pass at Zebra crossings.

“They are inconsiderate about the road users and they end up killing people and no one holds them into account. Since they cannot be able to arrest them as they speed away, cameras will form a good evidence for the police,” he said in an interview on Wednesday.

Vincent Tanui raised concern over the degradation of the crossing, saying that they had faded and hence could not be identified when one wanted to cross the road.

He added that the county used substandard materials when it came to their painting.

“We will also seek to have the county and the road departments paint the crossing after every three months with durable paintings to prevent such recurrences,” he added
