The political rivalry between the two major coalitions being witnessed currently risks plunging the country into another post-election violence as witnessed after the disputed presidential poll results in 2007-08, an activist in Nakuru has warned.

Addressing the press in Nakuru town on Tuesday, former TNA Nakuru chapter chairman now turned activist Abdul Noor said the country should brace for the toughest political rivalry in 2017 if what was being depicted by the two coalitions was anything to go by.

In what might be seen as an immediate attack on TNA secretary general Onyango Oloo who has threatened to marshall Jubilee supporters to demonstrate in a bid to counter the weekly Cord protests, Noor said such an approach was disastrous and is aimed at inciting supporters of the two coalitions..

Cord has vowed to hold protests in a quest to send the IEBC commissioners home claiming they plan to rig the 2017 elections in favour of Jubilee.

"Holding demonstrations to counter Cord's is the last thing Oloo can call for. You cannot quench fire using fire, watch this space; we are headed for a fight of supremacy like never witnessed before in the country," he cautioned.

According to Noor, the political temperatures have been steadily rising even months before the official campaigns begin, a trend he said must not be ignored.

"Cord and Jubilee are trying to prove to each other that one is mightier than the other and as it is the norm, the innocent, common mwananchi will feel the brunt," he said.

On Tuesday, Onyango Oloo threatened to call for retaliatory demonstrations across the country if Cord doesn't stop its protests.
