University students have been advised to appreciate and maintain their culture resisting any negative Western culture that has highly influenced the youth.
Addressing Students and other officials who attended the launch of Kisii University Cultural week at Kisii sports ground, Kisii University Vice-Chancellor Prof John Akama advised the youth to be proud of their culture and take their time to learn more about those cultures.
Prof Akama said that through preserving this culture the nation will develop where he said most developed countries like France, and China are proud of their culture which has enhanced their development.
“We need to appreciate and understand our culture and be proud of it, this will help us to develop socially and economically,” he said.
The vice chancellor likened a people who have abandoned their culture to a pilot who has no idea of the direction of his journey.
In addition, Akama said it was better to copy Western technology rather than to copy their culture.
According to him, most young people do not understand their culture because they overly imitate the Western culture and failing to want to learn more about their own roots.
