Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has urged the national government to address the issue of high cost of living before the next general election. Kingi, a close ally of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, said residents in rural Kilifi are among the most affected.Addressing residents during a public rally in Ndugumnani, Kingi said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William have not shown much commitment in the fight against hunger and drought.“It is unfortunate that the cost of living is hiking day in day out in Kenya,” Kingi said, as quoted by Baraka FM. The governor recalled the days when basic commodities were sold at affordable price, adding that President Kenyatta has to provide Kenyans with a long term solution as soon as possible.“We have always been taking chapati during ceremonies such as Christmas and New Year because wheat flour has always been more expensive than maize flour, but we are shocked and disappointed to see it turning out to be the opposite. I think it’s time the president and his government does something immediately to salvage the situation,” he added.
