Leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties have been challenged to come on board to discuss the challenges facing Kisii University satellite campuses.
Speaking on Sunday at Gekano parish during a funds drive, former Kisii town Mayor Samuel Nyangeso said it is high time for the leaders to come together to discuss the issues facing the varsity.
Nyangeso also hailed the High Court for temporarily halting the decision of the Commission for University Education (CUE) to shut down 10 of the varsity's 13 satellite campuses saying their closure will be a burden to the poor parents.
“I join Kisii University students in welcoming the court decision of stopping the closure of the institution's campuses, the closure will affect students and parents of the colleges since they have been easily accessing the facilities.”
“I categorically call upon the leaders from entire Gusii region led by Education CS Fred Matiang’i to come on board so that they can discuss and have the challenges facing our university addressed,” said Nyangeso.
He said the challenges facing the university need an immediate address by the leaders across the two counties including its governors.
“We also call upon the two governors to come on board so that challenges facing the university is address for once and for all, if there is an issue in the campuses, the counties through the heads, should come on board so that they can help in partnership with the National Assembly,” he added.
There have been issues about the closure of Kisii University campuses until the court issues an injunction stopping the closure until the court determines its fate.
