The government and other stakeholders have been urged to address the plight of secondary schools students and primary schools pupils who fail to perform well in national examinations.
While addressing pupils, parents and teachers and school administrators at Ndarugu Primary School on Friday during a prize giving event, Njoro Ward MCA Ezekiel Kungu said the government should get committed to serving the plight of poorly performing school children in the country.
The Member of the County observed that many of the pupils and students who fail to perform well in school get frustrated in life, and adopt miserable lifestyles like violent crime, prostitution, early marriages and child labour.
According to Kungu, there lacks a comprehensive community and government driven initiatives and programmes to elevate the lives of such children.
He urged parents to enroll poorly-performing children in youth polytechnics and talent search centres, for them to realize better goals in life.
He added that many children however fail to perform well in school due to many reasons that are beyond their control, and need support from the government and society.
“We should not just fight for the plight of poor children who perform well in national examinations, but also the plight of those who do not perform well. They are also part of society and need support,” said the Member of the County Assembly.
