The government has been challenged to address the plight of street children in Nakuru and across the country.

Addressing the press yesterday at Nakuru town, Nakuru Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chairperson Kezia Ngina expressed concerns over the high number of street kids.

She said that the government has a responsibility to promote and ensure the interests and welfare of street children is catered for.

Ngina stated that it is unfortunate that many children roam the streets yet the government is not doing anything,” she said.

The chair added that street urchins have the same rights just like other children and the government should intervene.

The official said that the constitution agitates for the welfare of the street children, stating that most of the street children have turned to crime.

Ngina at the same time called for cto help drug abusers and street children.

She observed that such centers will equip the victims with counsel and advice on issues like drug abuse, sexuality and other matters.

Meanwhile, the MYWO chair urged the government to boost security and ensure locals are safe. She said that they will support measures that are meant to address insecurity in the country.

Ngina also urged leaders across the political divide to put aside their differences and work together to promote development.
