While moving the motion, Mr Bundotich told the House that the committee received a petition on May 4, 2016 by the Uasin Gishu County Alcoholic Drinks Association (UGCADA) seeking clarification pertaining the petition.

However he noted that the Uasin Gishu Alcoholic Drinks Act 2012 did not provide for the representation of bar owners in the UGCADA Board, recommending that they be provided with a representative on Uasin Gishu Alcoholic Drinks Control Board.

The motion on the First Report of the Committee of Health Services was seconded by Kapkures Member of County Assembly and deputy chair of the committee David Tarus.

Mr Tarus highlighted that the operational hours allocated to different categories of businesses was not satisfactory to the bar owners arguing that the UGCADA Board should adhere to the hours of operations in accordance to Section (44) of the Alcoholic Drinks Amendment Act 2012.

Langas Member of COunty Assembly Francis Muya supported the motion saying the bar and restaurants licences be re-introduced by the department with strict supervision by the UGCADA to ensure adherence to the stipulated law.

He added that the grievances raised by the petitioners had been addressed by the committee and thus would go a long way to restoring sanity in the business sector.
