A parliamentary system of government should be adopted in Kenya to end the violence that has always characterised elections in Kenya.
It will not only end the perennial attacks that have been witnessed over the years as we elect the president but will also bring cohesiveness and reduce the cost of elections.
It should be noted that the election of the President in Kenya has been the most divisive since so many people who want to benefit and control the government fight to ensure that their candidate wins.
Kenyans too have been victims of this as they believe that when the president is from their tribe, they stand to benefit.
Since under the Parliamentary system political parties will be campaigning for the Parliamentary and ward seats, there would be a healthier environment for parties to promote national integration and unity as they seek to build a coalition.
This way the economy of our county will not be affected as there would be no conflicts nor clashes that have always characterised our elections.
Kenyans should note that the issue of managing the presidential elections has always got them into trouble and with the parliamentary system, this will come to an end as the members of the National Assembly will be electing the President and the Prime Minister.
Parliamentary system will also bring services closer to the people and as a result will increase accountability as mwananchi will be able to ask questions on their leaders and leadership as well as participate in decision making.
