According to a recent ruling by High Court, children abandoned by their parents in hospitals or streets can now receive full bond to their new parents and have the right to inherit their property.

“....once the adopting order is made it will be final and binding during the lifetime of the child, and the child shall have a right to inherit their property,'' ruled Justice Aggrey Muchelule who heads the Judiciary’s Family Division as quoted by the Standard.

The ruling also spells out that following the completion of the adoption procedures, the adoptive parents are compelled by the law to take the child as their own and cannot reverse the exercise or give up the children as a result of bad behavior or any other changes.

''The applicants shall not be able to give up the child owing to any subsequent unforeseen behavior or other changes in the child,”said Justice Muchelule in the ruling that will see the adoptees adopt their new parents' surnames and enjoy the possession of traveling documents including passports.
