Members of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church have expressed pleasure and satisfaction with the way Chief Justice David Maraga conducted the Supreme Court hearing on the August 8 presidential elections.

According to interviews pressed by The Standard, the church fraternity hailed the CJ saying that his ruling was not just informed by his understanding of the law alone but his religious convictions too.

“I am sure he (Maraga) slept peacefully last night bearing in mind that he made a judgment in accordance with what God had asked him, and the law. I am a proud Adventist and happy to be associated with him,” said a worshiper at the Milimani SDA church.

“I go to church in Kitengela but today I opted to come here after I was invited by a friend. Indeed, I am glad that Kenya has a CJ who is an Adventist,” said Joseph Masakhalia, son to former Finance minister Francis Masakhalia.

Among notable leaders present was Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris.

Maraga's firm religious belief was evident in the case hearing as he began reading the decision by affirming his fear of God.

“The greatness of any nation is determined by its fidelity to the Constitution, adherence to the rule of law and above all fear of God,” he said in the opening remarks.
