Kisumu County Education Executive Jennipher Kere has called on parents to advise the minors on whichever career paths that is relevant to their academic strengths and ambitions.

The Education Executive noted that the lakeside county had produced some of the top performers in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) that was released on Monday.

Speaking to our reporter, Kere said that most KCPE candidates do not really know what they want to be in future and this derails the focus towards academic achievement in high school.

“Parents really need to advise these top performers on whichever career path that is good for them while keeping in mind the academic strength and the child’s ambition in life,” said Kere.

Kisumu’s Golden Elites Schools’ Director Charles Ochome also reiterated on the same, saying that they normally regret when most of their top KCPE performers end up leading lives different to what was initially expected of them.

“Once the pupils perform well in KCPE, their parents normally relax and refrain from giving the advice that they ought to. This leads to the children picking wrong career paths in life,” said Ochome.
