Responding to the claims through a press statement, the team said the stadium is one of the best in the country and was evident as it hosted the CECAFA tournament.

“We shall not release our players for the upcoming Harambee Stars friendlies, due to the match and the Super Cup set to begin on 3rd June 2018. We condemn in the strongest terms possible the statements attributed to FKF President (Nick Mwendwa) that the derby will not be played at a ‘Funny Stadium’, didn’t he know that Bukhungu was ‘Funny Stadium’ when CECAFA was played there?” read part of the statement, which was signed by Oscar Igaida, the Secretary-General.

They have further indicated that they will not release their players to the national team, Harambee Stars, saying they have their plans and matches in the coming few weeks.

“The National Executive Committee would like to state that preparations for the Derby match slated for 26th May 2018 are in top gear and the match is on. The match dubbed ‘LeopardsHomecoming is set to be played at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakemega county,” added the statement.
