The much-hyped 'Mashemeji Derby' clash between Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia and perennial rivals AFC Leopards will now go on as planned after the latter rescinded its decision to boycott the match over financial issues.
Ingwe had earlier indicated that they would give the mouth-watering tie to be staged at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru a wide berth after realizing that the league organiser (KPL) had left them to their own means in preparing for the match.
"We will not take part in the Super Cup. We currently do not have a sponsor and KPL wants us to foot all the costs including accommodation and player's allowances. We cannot manage to pay all these bills and as such we have decided to withdraw and focus on the league and the CAF Confederation Cup club," organizing secretary Charles Lilumbi had earlier told local football website, Futaa.com.
However, the club has now asked its supporters to travel to Nakuru to support the team after a well-wisher came to its aid.
"We will honor the match.A well-wisher has come to our aid and I want to tell our fans that we will play on Sunday. They should travel in numbers to support the team. We have a very strong team now and I am confident that we will emerge victorious," Lilumbi clarified.
