Former Kenya Premier League (KPL) Champions AFC Leopards and 2017 KPL Champions’ Gor Mahia rivalry in the National league is now taking shape.

AFC Leopards showed what they are made of when they came from a goal down to beat KPL debutants Wazito FC 3-2 on Wednesday in a match played at the Machakos County Stadium.

The win elevated Leopards to the second position on the KPL log with13 points, three points behind leaders Gor Mahia.

The log rekindles memories of gone years, where first and second positions on the KPL log were always a mainstay of the two traditional rivals.

Jackton Mulanda who is AFC Leopards fans Kisumu branch Secretary-General says the rise of the two teams is a sign of good tidings for football in the Country. 

“Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards rise means that our football is headed for the long gone glory days,” he said when called by this writer on Wednesday.

Both teams have so far played six matches each, with Gor Mahia winning five and snatching a draw in one. 

On the other hand, Leopards has won on four occasions this season, lost once and got a draw in a single match.

Both teams have scored an identical 13 goals. Gor Mahia’s defence has proved to be the meanest having conceded three goals, while AFC Leopards’ leaky defence has let in nine goals so far. 

AFC Leopards next face Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday, while Gor Mahia’s next league match is against newbies Vihiga United on 30th of this month.
