Kisii County Women Representative, Mary Otara said this while assured women in the county that the fund will be used to improve the welfare of the girl child in the region.

She says the money will be channelled through the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) to facilitate the anti-FGM war to ensure the sexual and reproductive health rights of girls are secured.

Otara said once the funds are released by the National Treasury she will embark on identifying projects and programmes that will be financed to ensure maximum benefits are derived.

Speaking at Gusii stadium on Sunday during a funds drive in the aid of Kisii County MYWO, Otara said though the funds will not be enough to support all projects needed by women across the County, she was optimistic that the benefits will gradually trickle down to the grassroots.

"I am reminding women from this county that soon the fund, recently approved by the National Assembly for the 47 women representatives, will be released and part of the funds will be channelled through MYWO to step up the war against FGM in this region," she said.

Otara lamented that though the Gusii community had the knowledge on the negative consequences of FGM, they still cling on to the outdated cultural practice.
