Nyamira County residents have accused woman rep Alice Chae of mismanaging the Affirmative Action funds by buying panties and boxers for needy students saying she should instead use the money on empowering women and youths.
Chae posted on her Facebook page that she will distribute sanitary towels and panties for girls and boxers for boys from needy backgrounds across the county.
"On Tuesday I had a successful motivational talks and sanitary towels distribution alongside boxers and panties for children from impoverished background at Manga- Sengera, Manga- Nyaisa, Ikobe and Morako secondary schools. The exercise will continue at Esise on Wednesday and Mekenene on Thursday. All wards are factored. Thank you all, let's help our girls and boys", read the post.
But now residents have accused for using the initiative for her own political gain instead of serving the interests of the people.
“She has proved to be a desperate candidate who is doing everything to retain her seat come 2017. Soon, she will start buying condoms for the school-going children and ferrying our women to hospitals for family planning," said Alphonce Okari.
“She has been underground for the past three years only to resurface with panties and boxers without even carrying out a prior research to establish whether our boys and girls lack them. Who told them that parents to those children have no ability to buy the cheap things she issued to our children. She is trying to lure residents vote her in 2017", said Margaret Kwamboka.
"Instead of using the money to purchase the pants, sanitary towels and boxers she could have used the money to pay school fees for children from poor families whose parents are unable to pay the huge fees charged in schools. She will lose terribly in 2017," remarked Moses Moreira.
Efforts by this writer to reach the woman rep bore were fruitless.
