Kiambu County government Minister for Environment and Social Services Ester Njuguna has called for maintenance of Lari Water Catchment areas to ensure there is steady flow of water in Kiambu County.
Speaking today at Kinale Forest Kinale Ward, Lari sub-county,Kiambu County during a forestation drive in the forest , Njuguna said that the water catchment area is instrumental in shaping the destiny of Kiambu residents and urged residents to support the drive .
“Kinale Forest is life blood of Kiambu residents as most rivers have their sources in this forest,” said Njuguna. Njuguna urged the Kiambu residents to preserve the forest by planting more trees.
“Kiambu residents have a stake to contribute to the preservation of Kinale by supporting the county's effort by planting more trees,” said Njuguna.
She also called private partners in preserving the water catchment area.
“We need private partners to help in achieving the county's target to have 2 % of Kiambu under forest cover,” said Njuguna.
Njuguna called on the residents surrounding the forest to participate in community endeavour in preserving the forest.
“Communities residing near Kinale Forest should maintain it to ensure there is enough water for irrigation and domestic consumption,” said Njuguna.
She however said that stern action would be taken to those logging trees.
“The County government will take tough action against those who will be found logging trees illegally,” said Njuguna.
She also said that the county government of Kiambu has put place measures to ensure the natural resources in the county are protected.
“The county government has rolled out polices that are geared at developing and implementing natural resources,” said Njuguna.
