It is all systems go at the Afraha Sports Stadium in Nakuru as preparations for this year’s Madaraka day national celebrations close in.
Contractors and security agencies are working round the clock to ensure all runs according to plan by Friday in readiness for the national celebrations which Kenyans expect to be marked outside the capital Nairobi for the first time in post-independence Kenya.
Nakuru County becomes the first County to host the national celebrations following a Presidential directive to decentralize national events.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has since maintained that the decentralization of national events is all in the spirit of devolution.
"The stadium, the venue for the grand celebrations, will be ready to host the President and his guests by the weekend," said Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.
Military parades presided over by Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe was on Wednesday at the stadium which is testimony to what leaders say.
The event`s preparation committee constituted by the county and national governments had earlier told news conferences that big screens will be installed at strategic positions outside the stadium to allow the anticipated large number of citizens in attendance to follow the proceedings of the celebrations.
