A Thika based wines and spirits manufacturer has announced a Sh200 million investment in non-refillable bottles for its leading brand, Legend Brandy.
Africa Spirits Limited (ASL) which introduced the technology on its products in 2015 has said it is investing the money in redesigning Legend Brandy’s caps with the latest technology as part of its strategy to curb the brand from being counterfeited.
“We are demonstrating our commitment to the safety of our consumers. We are ahead of the curve when it comes to improving the technology we are using every year. Our new cap comes with a colorful twist,” said ASL’s Head of Marketing Nyawira Kariuki as quoted by Thika Town Today.
Nyawira added that the company's move has been informed by changingglobal trends and for the benefit of its consumers.
Africa Spirits has also rolled out the cap closure technology across all its other brands that includes Bluemoon Vodka, Furaha Brandy, Furaha Vodka, Gypsy King to mention but a few.
In Thika, ASL was the first alcohol manufacturer to adopt the technology in 2015 which ensures that the bottle cannot be refilled after sale.
“Through innovation, we are creating appropriate and effective anti-counterfeiting strategies to distinguish our products in the market,” Nyawira is further quoted.
She says that the company plans to use the opportunity to further share responsible drinking messages even as Kiambu county government continues cracking down on illicit brews manufacture, sale and consumption.
