A day after Deputy President William Ruto accused the National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders of nepotism, details have now emerged that her eldest daughter, June Chepchirchir, is a government employee.

June holds the senior rank of the second counsellor in the Kenyan embassy in Rome, Italy, the Nation reports.

Even though she has qualifications in international relations, sources at Foreign Affairs Ministry told the Nation that June's rise to her position is a fast climb.

She has Masters degree in International Studies from the University of Queensland, Australia and a Bachelor degree in Diplomacy from the United States International University in Nairobi.

This publication comes after the DP criticised the NASA presidential running mate Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for nominating his son, Kennedy Musyoka, to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Ruto said the opposition alliance leaders no longer had the moral authority to lecture Jubilee administration on tribalism or nepotism.

“They have been telling us they do not want tribalism, but they fronted their brothers and sons for the EALA positions,” he said in Kilgoris, Narok County.

The issue of top government leaders having their relatives serving in their administration's is an open secret in Kenya.

For instance, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nephew, Jomo Gecaga, serves in State House as the President’s Private Secretary.

When NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga was serving as the Prime Minister, his sister, Wenwa Akinyi, was posted as Consulate General in the US and his brother-in-law Elkana Odembo as Kenya’s ambassador to the US.
