On Tuesday, Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho came out in public and declared that he was proud of the the D- (Minus) grade he got in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1993 at Serani Secondary School.

The admission by the self-proclaimed Sultan of Mombasa left many surprised and even led to the emergence of followers where some congratulated him for the bold announcement, terming it as an inspiration to those who didn't succeed in school, that life is not about grades but what you make it.

Others attacked the governor, questioning how he ascended to such top office with poor academic credentials.

One of the critics that astonished many was Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who also took to his Facebook page to lead an onslaught on the son of the Indian Ocean county.

Kuria said after Joho's admission of getting a D- it is highly possible there is only one word he got right in his Kiswahili paper.

"I wonder what this Nigga got in Kiswahili. I am sure the only question he got right was the spelling of MIHADARATI," he said on his Facebook page.

However, the post from Kuria was met with mixed reaction with a section of online users feeling disappointed by the MP's remarks.
