Attorney general Githu Muigai, while presenting a certificate of registration to atheists in March, said that everyone is free to choose religion of his or her choice as stipulated in the constitution of Kenya which advocates for freedom of worship and religious associations.
By suspending the registration, the AG is simply double-speaking and going against the very constitution that allows atheists to form their own association.
Does it mean that atheists are not recognized in Kenya? And if yes, why? Why is AG infringing on their rights to form an association?
I think you can not force someone to believe in a god that he or she does not want to believe even exist.
By suspending the registration, it clearly shows that Kenya is supporting religious intolerance and that is not good in this time and age where human rights are valued.
Religious intolerance has led to religious war in many countries and we do not want Kenya to go the same path.
AG should re-consider his steps and uphold the registration.
