A 14-year-old girl determination to achieve high grades and pursue her high school education paid off when she scored 402 marks despite being raised by a single father.
Christine Nkatha Njeru whose parents separated four years ago as a result of infidelity vowed not to allow her parents' marital breakdown to ruin her future and against all odds studied heard in her single father’s single room to realize her dreams of becoming a forensic auditor.
Her plight was caught the attention of the proprietor of Top Talent Academy Rosemary Muita in Ruiru Sub-County who touched by her desperate situation agreed to sponsor her primary school education and to remove her from the dangerous environment that she was living in at Gachororo slums.
Nkatha narrated how after her parents broke up after several years of fierce fights her mother abandoned her and her younger sister and were married off by a wealthy man leaving them wallow in abject poverty where they shared a single room with their father.
“Our mother was operating a salon at Ruiru while our father was a casual labourer at a local leather industry and life was fine for us then but our mother started sleeping out and stopped taking care of us and later abandoned us” She narrated amidst sobs.
The optimistic girl said that since the two parted ways, they have never been in contact with her mother who she acknowledged got married to another man leaving her destitute father grappling to raise her and her younger sister.
