Former President Mwai Kibaki could barely articulate himself coherently on Monday during the burial of inaugural Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.

Kibaki, 86, was elected president in 2002 under NARC and was re-elected in the disputed polls in 2007 that resulted formation of a Grand Coalition government.

When invited by Deputy President William Ruto, Mr. Kibaki barely mentioned the name or the family of the deceased and rather, spoke in confusing Shahili language.

Known for his amusing public speaking skills, the retired head of state however, failed to even address challenges the country is facing under the Jubilee regime.

The Nyeri funeral brought together leaders from both the government and opposition.

Kibaki has rarely appeared in public events and was hospitalized last year in South Africa following a short illness.

Also, the former Democratic Party leader cut short his speech last year after disputing that it was a ‘wrong’ speech.
