[Photo|Courtesy]Lecturers have strongly differed with Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i after he said the government through various universities will from next year start employing lecturers and other university staff on contract terms.Matiang'i made the statement on Wednesday, where he slammed the striking dons and accused them of taking students and government for granted because they are permanent employees.According to him, if lecturers are employed on contract, they will concentrate more on performance and not strikes. However University Academic Staff Union (UASU) criticised Matiang'i saying it was evident he was not interested in solving lecturers grievances. Addressing the press in Nairobi on Thursday, UASU Secretary General Constantine Wesonga said they would move to court to block any attempts by Matiang'i to employ dons on contract basis. He said the CS's statement contravenes worker's rights and labour laws and that they would not allow such.
They have been on strike since November 1.
