Dairy farmers in Subukia are a disgruntled lot as prices of milk go down over the ongoing political uncertainities.

Farmers said the political season has affected their business in a large scale.

“We are not happy with the situation. We are forced to sell the product at a lower price than what we were earning because of the current political situation. Our livelihoods have been affected very much,” laments John Karanja, a dairy farmer in Mihang’o.

He said there is a decrease in demand.

“Milk is not moving. Business has been affected by politics. We are now in a survival mode as hotels who are our primary customers are taking reduced portions. We hope things get better otherwise we may experience a further slashing of the price because it’s dictated by the scope of demand,” observed Paul Kamau, a milk vendor.
