Nakuru County Assembly majority leader Samuel Waithuke has asked the government and Teachers' unions to come to a speedy agreement over teachers' salaries and stop wasting children's time.
Waithuke says that this is not the time for hard-line stances but rather a time for both sides to hold serious talks and come to a consensus.
"The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Teachers' Unions must hold roundtable talks and conclude this matter as soon as possible," said Waithuke.
Waithuke has further asked the government to be honest in the talks to avert future strikes.
"Let TSC promise what it can meet so that teachers do not say that the government is used to cheating them. The teachers should also accept what the government is able to offer for now," he said in Nakuru on Monday.
Waithuke noted that those who are losing are the children of the poor who study in the public schools.
He said, "The only thing that can bring the child of the poor at par with that of a rich is education. So let us take it seriously."
