The 2 day Kiambu county agri-business exhibition came to an end on Friday after an exhibition by farmers drawn from various sub counties within Kiambu at Thika Technical Training Institute Grounds. The main aim of this exhibition was to offer farmers a platform to network with other farmers and also market their produce.
According to Mrs. Purity Mbambu, the county agri-business marketing officer, for a long time farmers have undergone numerous challenges especially when it comes to marketing their produce and hence organising such events was aimed at encouraging farmers to work together with the Agriculture and Fisheries Department.
"Farmers need to be empowered and thus the county government has come up with innovative ways of doing that. Key among them is providing women and youth with the Biashara Fund which aims at providing capital and credit to support their agri-business venture,” said Mrs. Mbambu.
Speaking to the farmers during the closure ceremony attended by the Kiambu Executive for Agriculture Monica Waiganjo among other county officials, Mbambu was grateful to the county government for organising such an event.
"I am optimistic that through such events farmers in this region will be able to reach out to new customers and create networks with other farmers," she said.
The Kiambu county agriculture CeC Monica Waiganjo further encouraged the farmers to take advantage of such initiatives to ensure that they improve their skills in the farming sector and market their products.
